32. Vets respond to shipment
Veterinarians are welcoming the the government's decision to place restrictions on shipments of livestock for slaughter in other countries. He says in the 1990s there were large losses of stock when shipments of live sheep were sent to the Middle East. He says although more is now known about transporting animals in a way that better addresses their welfare needs and there has been a big improvement in shipping conditions, the association remains concerned about what happens to the animals...

33. Health warning over 'ready-to-eat' food
Representatives of the ready-to-eat salads industry expressed disbelief at Prof Threlfall's comments and maintained that there was no need to re-wash their products. Prior to the stock market bottoming out in 2002 both the commodities market, as measured by the CCI index and gold had already begun their bull market moves up,...

36. Buyers flock to sale despite small numbers
There were some outstanding crossbred ewes penned along with large numbers of very well-bred and well-presented young Merino ewes. First-cross ewes sold well despite the dry conditions and the present state of the prime lamb market. There was a reasonable selection of mixed age and older Merino ewes, mostly presenting in top order. Competition was strong throughout from a good crowd of buyers. The balance of the mixed-aged and older Merino ewes which were all unjoined sold from $26 to $51/head.
